Albert W. Gurnee III

of Warren Center, Pa

Albert W. Gurnee III, affectionately known as Al to friends and Butch to his sisters, passed away on January 6, 2025, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Born on March 28, 1945, in Lebanon, PA, Al lived a life characterized by service, love, and devotion to his family and country.

Al's journey began as the beloved son of the late Florentine and Albert W. Gurnee, Jr. He grew up surrounded by his caring sisters, Shirley Parham and Jackie Braver and was predeceased by his sister Louise Helsell. In 1965, Al graduated from Plymra High School and immediately answered the call to serve his nation. He joined the US Marines, serving from 1965 to 1969 as a fireman, and continued his commitment to service with the Army Reserves, retiring as a staff sergeant. His military career spanned nearly four decades, and he took great pride in his total service time of 39 years, 10 months, and 29 days.

Al's work ethic was unparalleled, and following his honorable discharge, he dedicated 28 years as a roofer for Binghamton University. He later retired from Ideal Senior Living, where he was a valued member of the maintenance team. Al's commitment to community service also shone through his early years' involvement with the Warren Township Fire Department, where he served as Fire Police.

At the heart of Al's world was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Bertha W. Gurnee, and their cherished children. His legacy lives on through his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Gurnee, Kevin and Rose Gurnee, Keith and Marilyce Gurnee, and Matthew Gurnee; and his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gary Daniels; Al's joy was multiplied by his fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, with the family joyfully anticipating the arrival of two more. His love extended to several nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom he held dear.

Al was a man of faith, he attended the Warren Center Baptist Church and the Independent Bible Church in Little Meadows. His love for his church community was profound, and he cherished the fellowship and support they provided. He was a faith-filled individual, friendly and loving, known for his welcoming smile and the warmth he extended to all he met.

A lover of the great outdoors, Al found solace in camping and took delight in sharing this passion with his grandchildren. His love for his family was the guiding force in his life, and his happiest moments were those spent surrounded by his loved ones.
