Catherine "Kate" Louise Nye

Catherine "Kate" Louise Nye, 78, of Nichols passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 29, 2009 following an extended illness. A life long resident of Nichols, Kate was born on July 7, 1931 a daughter of the late Earl and Nellie (Olmstead) Dutton. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Kate always treasured the time spent with her family. She enjoyed baking goodies, visiting with friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee. A kind and caring lady, Kate opened her home to care for many area children and elderly. Kate will be remembered in Nichols as school "Crossing Guard Kate" She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Kate is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Carolyn and Michael O'Toole of Waverly; Cynthia Nye of Nichols; her special grandchildren: Megan O'Toole (Jason Allen) of Pine City, NY; Toby Nye (Whitney Lawrence) of Portland, OR; Kevin (Nickol) O'Toole of Waverly; her great grandchildren: Patrick, Isabella, Michael and Dylan O'Toole and Amelia Frances Allen. Brothers: Jack Dutton; Jay (Carol) Dutton; sisters: Althea Lewis, Jean Henry, Constance Dutton; sisters-in-law: Doris Dutton Kate Slater and Marylou Vanicola. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Dawn Russell, Sally Robinson and Joan Vandemark. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth E. Nye in 1991. A memorial service and celebration of Kate's life will be held on Sunday, November 1st at 1:30 pm at the Nichols Presbyterian Church with Pastor Donna Martin, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Nichols Cemetery.
