Leon S. Olmstead Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Leon S. Olmstead, 94, formerly of Pine City, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the Elderwood Health Care Facility in Waverly. Leon was born on January 1, 1921 in Nichols, NY a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Edwards) Olmstead. He proudly served his country during WW II with the US Army. Leon retired from US Steel in 1966 following a injury. He was an avid NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan, enjoyed listening to country music and always told his family everything was just “hunky dorey”. Leon is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families among them,Etta Olmstead; and his caregivers ~ Vivian and Donald Scovell all of Nichols; and two step children. He was predeceased by his wife Viva E. (Bowman) Olmstead on Dec. 22, 2001; siblings: Emma, Ethel, Phoebe, Ed, Harold and Herbert. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 4 – 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will follow at 6pm with Pastor Donna Martin, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the New York State Military Forces Honor Guard. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Nichols Cemetery.
