Albert A. Maffei, Jr.
of Windham, PA
Albert Angelo Maffei, Jr., affectionately known as Al by his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, in Vestal, NY. Born on December 9, 1940, in Queens, NY, Al lived a life marked by generosity, spirit, and deep love for his family and community.
Al's journey began in the bustling borough of Queens, where he was imbued with a strong sense of heritage and an appreciation for the simple joys of life. His Italian roots were a source of immense pride and influenced his love for Italian cuisine, a passion he cherished throughout his life. Al's warm personality and loving nature were the cornerstones of his existence, endearing him to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
In the prime of his career, Al was a respected contractor with Full Service Contracting in Hewlett. His skills and dedication to his craft were evident in every project he undertook. In the 1990s, Al and his beloved wife, Joan Marie Maffei, moved to Windham, PA, to make their home, nurturing a life filled with love and shared endeavors.
Al and Joan’s faith were a guiding light in their lives. Together they were faithful members of the Greater Valley Assembly of God Church in Athens and previously attended First Assembly of God in Binghamton. His commitment to his faith community was unwavering, and he played an instrumental role in the construction of the church and as a board member.
His interests were as broad as his heart was wide. Al reveled in the beauty of nature, whether he was hunting in the serene landscapes of Montana, bird watching, or simply enjoying the great outdoors. His affinity for dogs was evident in his series of companions, all lovingly named "Buddy," who were his loyal friends and confidants.
Left to honor Al's memory are his devoted sister, Louise Tarson, his cherished church family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss his presence but will continue to be inspired by the love he shared so freely. Al's life was one of spirited adventure and heartfelt connections. He found joy in spending time with his church family and indulged in the pleasures of eating out, always seeking to savor the flavors of life. The passing of his wife, Joan, on January 1, 2020, left a void in his heart, but those who knew Al take solace in knowing that he and Joan are now reunited, their love enduring beyond the bounds of this earthly realm.
We will gather on Saturday, February 17th for a period of visitation from 2 – 3 pm at the Greater Valley Assembly of God Church to celebrate and remember Al’s life. A memorial service with his Pastor and dear friend Rev. Chris Gray, will officiate for a service at 3 pm. Al will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Valley Home Cemetery, Windham, Pa. Al's journey on earth has concluded, but the impact of his loving and generous spirit will be felt for generations to come. He lived a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love—a testament to the man he was and the lives he touched. As we bid farewell to Al, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will forever be cherished.
