Alan H. Walker, 73
Formerly of Barton, NY
Alan H. Walker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home on July 27, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on October 29, 1950, at Tioga General Hospital in Waverly, NY, Alan's life was a testament to dedication, passion, and love.
From a young age, Alan's life was marked by a profound commitment to family. His enduring love story with Deborah A. (VanDusen) Walker began when Debby was just 13 and Alan was 15. Their romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership, filled with love and devotion. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Nathan (Chantelle) Walker and Lee (Lisa) Walker. Alan's life was further blessed with the arrival of his grandchildren, Ivie Marie (Austin) Turner, Andrew Walker, Alainna Walker, Bella Lawson, Brenden Walker, and Sean Walker.
Alan's family extended beyond his immediate circle, encompassing his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lynn and Lorraine Walker, Lyle and Katie Walker, and Duane and Petie Horton; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelda Hopkins, Debbie Lou and Mark Hanford; and Debby's siblings, Kathy and Mike Kenny, David and Lynda VanDusen, and brother-in-law Bill and Sandy Licata. Alan's life was further enriched by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will deeply miss his loving, intelligent, and friendly presence. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Marion Walker, stepbrothers Gary and Chuck (Molly) Horton, nephew Dave Horton, and sister-in-law Mary Licata. His legacy continues through the countless lives he touched.
Alan's pursuit of knowledge and excellence began at Tioga Central High School, from which he graduated in 1968. He continued his education at Corning Community College and later attended night classes at Rochester Institute of Technology while working. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career as a Mechanical Design Engineer and Manager. Alan's professional journey included significant tenures at Xerox Corporation in Webster, NY, and NCR in Ithaca (later AT&T and Axiohm). Alan cared deeply for his colleagues and was known for his steadfast work ethic, as shown by his favorite motto: "Tell me what you can do, not what you can't."
Alan's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid outdoorsman, cherishing the family tradition of fishing in the Thousand Islands. His love for the outdoors was evident in the many decks, porches, sheds, and garages he built. Alan's skillful hands could fix anything, and he took great pride in restoring his John Deere Crawler and Ford Jubilee. His adventurous spirit was also showcased in his love for Enduro bike racing, with Debby as his indispensable pit crew. Competing at events like the Burro Enduro, Alan's competitive nature and love for sports were always on display.
Alan also found great joy in traveling to Florida, camping, and golfing. These trips were filled with cherished memories, from sunny days on the golf course to bonfires under the stars. Enjoying the serenity of the outdoors with his loved ones added another layer to his rich and fulfilling life.
