Albert L. Ward, 74, of Apalachin, passed away on January 16, 2010 following an illness. Al is survived by his beloved daughters, Pamela (Harry Swackhammer) Smith, and Ginger Lee (Edmund) Dodge; his 11 adored grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Norma Wierbel, Lucretia Watson, Ona Brasington; and daughter-in-law, Shelly Ward. Born on October 2, 1935, he was a son of the late Archie L. and Matilda (Burgess) Ward. He was predeceased by his wife, Orvella (Romeo) Ward; his son, Albert L. "Jake" Ward, Jr.; sister, Madoline Wilbur; grandson, Bucky Joe Ward; step-brother, Elgene Ward; and his devoted dog, Bridgett. Al served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a long time employee of Proctor and Gamble in Mehoopany , PA. The happiest moments of his life were spent at his home with his family and farming on his land. He was a man who lived by the Golden Rule and who opened his home to anyone in need including several foster children. Al's family will receive friends at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 So. Main St. , Nichols on Tuesday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. A Funeral Service and Celebration of his life will follow there at 2 p.m. with his grandson, Pastor Jason Smith officiating.
