Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear…. Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Alma L. Smith, 77, of Athens, Pa passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Alma was born on March 26, 1931 in Sayre, Pa a daughter of Carl M. and Anna (Escott) Sampson. She was a graduate of Rome High School and on September 1, 1950 she married Richard A. Smith. Together they have celebrated nearly 59 years of happiness. A devoted wife and mother, Alma treasured the time spent with her family. She enjoyed playing the organ, singing, needlepoint and traveling. Alma is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Smith at home; her children: Dale and Marla Smith of Sarasota, Florida; Daryl and Nancy Smith of Ulster, Pa; Donna and Bill Repsher of LeRaysville, Pa; Duane and Kimberly Smith of Ulster, Pa; her sister Madeline (Jack) Shay of Nichols; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Howard Towner of Towanda, Pa; Gene Kissell of French Asylum; Walter (Lucille) Smith of Towanda, Pa; her grandchildren: Tim Smith, Laura Dolgas, Melissa Smith, Monica Russell, April Russell, Bill Repsher, Jr.; Kristin Repsher, David Smith, Shawna Smith, Walter Smith, Marcus Smith; great grandchildren: Leah, Dilan, Kayla, Meg Russell, Josh and Stephanie Smith; Nicholas and Samantha Smith; Cody, Tyler, Luke Russell; Kloey Repsher. Several nieces, nephews and many friends also survive. Alma was predeceased by her parents; sisters Doris (Elmer) Moore, Margaret Towner; brothers: Donald Sampson and Warren Sampson; grandchildren: Jonathan Smith, Paul Smith and Angela Smith. A time of remembering the special gift Alma was to all of us will be held on Thursday, March 5th at 4 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 South Main St., Nichols with Pastor C. Kenneth Crain, officiating. Interment will be in the Towner Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Thursday from 3 pm until the time of the service at 4 pm.
