Althea E. Lewis

Althea E. Lewis, 94, of Waverly passed away on October 13, 2017 at the Robert Packer Hospital following a brief period of declining health. Althea was born on February 9, 1923 in Nichols one of nine children to Earl and Nellie (Olmstead) Dutton. In December 1947, she married Kenneth Lewis at the Owego Presbyterian Church together they celebrated 46 years of marriage until his passing in 2004. At the age of 18, Althea started working at Blue Swan and Sayre Lingerie and later retired from A & P in Horseheads. An avid reader, Althea also enjoyed bird watching and visiting with her friends at Elderwood. Althea is survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Jay and Carol Dutton of Nichols; her sister Jean Henry of Candor; several nieces, nephews and their families ~ among them a special niece Charlene Katchuk. Althea was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Lewis; a daughter Barbara Jean Lewis; siblings: LeRoy Dutton, Jack Dutton, Catherine "Kate" Nye, Constance "Connie" Dutton, Harriett Rogers and Frank Dutton. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Wednesday, October 18th from 1 to 2:45 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A prayer will be offered by her nephew, Alan Dutton prior to leaving for Glenwood Cemetery in Waverly where her nephew Barry Dutton will have prayers of committal.
