Andrew Smith “Andy” Forbes, 57, of Rome, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home on Friday, March 13, 2026. Andy was born on September 30, 1968, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, Pennsylvania a son of Ronald Lee Forbes and Barbara J. Forbes.
Andy grew up helping on the family farm and developed a deep love for the outdoors early in life. He was active in Boy Scouts during grade school and graduated from Towanda High School with the Class of 1987, where he also played football.
Following graduation, Andy began working at Taylor’s before starting what would become a 36-year career with Osram Sylvania/ GTP. He began his career as a millwright and, through years of hard work, dedication, and leadership, worked his way up to become the 2nd Shift Plant Foreman, a position he took great pride in.
For more than 20 years Andy was a hobby farmer, happiest when he was outdoors working with his hands. He also enjoyed tinkering as a hobby mechanic, building model car kits, and following NASCAR racing. A loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he rarely missed the chance to watch a game. Andy also spent a short time serving his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Wysox Fire Department.
Andy was married for 34 years to his loving wife, Brenda “Peanut” Lee Forbes. Above all else, Andy was a dedicated and loving father and son who took great pride in his family. He cared deeply about preserving family history and the strong values that connected generations. Known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, Andy had a way of making those around him laugh and feel welcome. His presence, guidance, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Brenda and his parents Ronald & Barbara Forbes, he is survived by his children, Ravon Sprague (formerly Forbes), Richard Forbes, Seth Forbes, Noah Forbes, and Adam Strope; and his grandson, Royce Sprague. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald Lynn and Brenda K. Forbes; his sister, Melissa A. Forbes; and his nieces and nephew, Ronald Lynn Forbes Jr., Nichole Forbes, Kaylyn M., and Zach Kerstetter. He will also be missed by Brenda’s extended family, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Tracey and Mabel Champluvier, Brenda’s siblings and their families: Julie Wilcox, Charles (Kathy) Benjamin, Joe (Amy) Benjamin, Cheyenne Benjamin (Adrian Olvera). Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Richard Lee Forbes (1966); his grandparents Nancy C. and Leon A. Forbes, Sr., Isedora M. and Arthur E. Walker, Sr. and his father-in-law Charles Benjamin Sr. on April 25, 2012.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later time.
