Anita M. Fardelmann, 84, of Rome, Pa and most recently residing in Salisbury, MD passed away following a period of declining health on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Anita was born on March 7, 1926 in Iowa a daughter of the late Samuel and Iona (Ellis) McMahon. At the young age of two, her family moved from Iowa to Texas. Being the depression years, her family moved again and she attended grade school and high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Anita met her husband Donald C. Fardelmann at New Mexico A&M. Anita attended Cincinnati School of Nursing during WWII in the Nurses Core. On July 28, 1946 at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico Anita and Don were married and later moved to Livingston, New Jersey to raise their six children. After nine years of attending college, Anita received her Under Graduate Degree in Science from Fairleigh Dickenson University, the same year her oldest son graduated from high school. Anita also received her Masters Degree in Science from Fairleigh Dickenson University while teaching at Essex County Junior College in Newark, New Jersey. She taught at Essex County for nineteen years. Following her retirement, Anita and Don retired to a home they built in Windham Township, where they still reside today. Recently they chose to spend the winter in Hebron, Maryland to be near two of their sons and families. Anita was an active member of her communities. She was instrumental in the opening of a Day Care Center at the Livingston United Methodist Church. In addition she organized a successful survey to ban long-haul trucks from residential Livingston Avenue, Livingston, New Jersey~knowing there was another less residential road available. After organizing a recycling site in North Orwell, Pennsylvania she was the only women to serve on the Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority Board for Sullivan & Bradford Counties. The Fardelmann's attended Livingston United Methodist Church in Livingston for 34 years where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women. Additional memberships include the Livingston Association of University Women, the Windham Township Ladies Aid, the North Orwell Union Church and was briefly attending the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. Always willing to serve, Anita and Don also volunteered at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for the last nineteen years. Gardening was her avocation growing both flowers and vegetables in partnership with her husband. Her greatest pleasure was reading and greatest passion was learning. Anita was a loving neighbor and friend. She, in turn, felt fortunate to have loving neighbors and friends in the three towns she and Don have lived. Anita will be greatly missed by her loving husband of nearly 64 years, Donald; her six children: Janet Richardson of Pennsylvania; Donald "Cris" (Suellen) Fardelmann of Florida; Eric (Robin) Fardelmann of Kansas; Jimmy (Dawn) Fardelmann of Maryland; Denise (Dan) Egel of Indiana; Randy (Maryann) Fardelmann of Maryland; ten grandchildren: Nikki (Mike) Koski, Yvette (Frank) Majnerich, Jacqueline Fardelmann, Garrett Fardelmann, Meghan Fardelmann, Sam Egel, Nettie Egel, Evie Fardelmann, Jaime Fardelmann and Dirk Fardelmann; as well as three great grandchildren, Bryan, Amanda and Jennifer Koski. Her sister Pat Sherman of Las Cruces, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews also survive. Anita was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Powell, brother Edward McMahon and son-in-law Graham Richardson. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Saturday, May 29th from 4 -7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Ben Robinson, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the North Orwell Cemetery.
