Arba "Al" J. Vanderpool

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone, part of us went with you the day God called you home….Arba "Al" J. Vanderpool, 80, of Lurcock Road, Sayre, Pa went to his heavenly home and was reunited with his loving wife on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Al, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was born on March 12, 1933 in Sayre, Pa a son of the late DeWitt and Florence McIntire Vanderpool. He proudly served his country with the US Army and on January 12, 1955 he married Masu "Dotty" Kasakawa. Together they shared fifty-five years of marriage until her passing on March 1, 2010. Al was a member of the Athens American Legion and former member of the Nichols, Sayre and Milltown American Legions. He was a dedicated pool player, enjoyed visiting with his many friends at Clam Night and playing pool at The Station. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him~ Al will be greatly missed by his children: David and Bona Vanderpool, Johnny Vanderpool and Stacy Fassett, Larry Vanderpool and Beva Southworth, Dale and Brenda Vanderpool, Nancy and Curtis Brown, Leona and Anthony DiCenso; his siblings: Leona VanDuzer, James and Victoria Vanderpool, Bessie and Robert Porter, Verna and Ralph Kinney, Enos and Patricia Vanderpool, Glenn and Linda Vanderpool, Kathy and Dale Stack, Rosemary and Richard Bartleson, Ernest and Sharon Vanderpool; his special grandchildren: David Jr., Aron, Steven, Audra, Joshua, William (Kaitlyn), Corey, Jesse (Tara), Jessica, Anthony and Dominic; many great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends also survive. Al was predeceased by his parents, his wife Masu "Dotty" Vanderpool, his brother William Vanderpool, brothers-in-law Chester VanDuzer, Max Gesford and a grandson Alan Vanderpool. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Thursday, October 17th from 6 to 8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of his life will follow at 8 pm with Pastor Larry Jennings, officiating.
