When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee…. Arlene A. Smith, 89, of RD 1, Rome (Orwell Twp.) passed away Sunday evening, November 14, 2010. She was born on February 28, 1921 in Lenhartsville, PA one of eleven children of the late Jonathan J. and Louisa J. (Grim) Kramer. On January 9, 1943 she married Irvin T. Smith, Jr. in South Carolina, while he was stationed in the US Army. For many years, Arlene and Irvin owned and operated a family farm on Orwell Hill until May 2008, when they retired from farming. Arlene enjoyed quilting, sewing and farm life. She will be greatly missed by her family~and we hope until we meet again, she finds peace in heaven's hands. Arlene is survived by her husband of 67 years, Irvin T. Smith, Jr., her children: Margaret A. (Russell) Edwards, Irvin "Tom" (Donna) Smith, Mable (Gordon) Wilson, Christine Casselbury; her sisters Mary E. (Harold) Hoffman, Pauline (Donald) Dautrich, a brother LeRoy Kramer; grandchildren: Susan, Jackie, Connie, Daniel, Grace, Greg, Robin, Renee, Erica and Loretta; great grandchildren: Jessica, Samantha, Michael, Jonathan, Krista, Betsy, Cera, Gavin, Sadie, Dalton, Roxanne, Carl, Rachel and Isaac. Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Arlene was predeceased by her parents, siblings: Pearl Snyder, Lovie Schwoyer, Robert Kramer, Lester Kramer, Irwin Kramer, Nevin Kramer, Raymond Kramer and a grandson Russell Clyde Edwards. Funeral services for Arlene and a celebration of a life well lived will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Interment will follow in the Darling Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Thursday from 10 am until the time of the service.
