Art

March 31, 1974 — April 23, 2024

Arthur George Bidlack II, known affectionately as Art to his friends and Artie in his younger years, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident on April 23, 2024. Art was born on March 31, 1974, in Waverly, NY, during a fierce ice storm. As a robust newborn, tipping the scales at 10 pounds and 1 3/4 ounces, he brought immense joy and laughter into the world, a trait that he carried with him throughout his life.

Art was the cherished son and stepson of Ellen May (Ellison) Bidlack-Manzer and Ray Manzer, who nurtured his free spirit and determination. His maternal grandmother, Dorothy (Shipman) Ellison, along with his babysitters and driving instructors, Charlie and Roger Olmstead, played pivotal roles in teaching Art the ropes of life. Although his father, Arthur G. Bidlack, Sr., his infant brother Dennis, his Maternal grandpa James A. Ellison, his Paternal grandparents Guy and Charlotte Bidlack, his favorite aunt Cheryl, and cousin Michael, predeceased him, their influence on Art's life was profound and lasting.

Art's early years were marked by his educational journey at Tioga Central High School, from which he graduated in the class of 1993. During his school years, Art's athletic prowess shone through as he played football from a young age up until his graduation. While wrestling was not his favorite sport, it was another arena where he forged lasting friendships. Tim Millage, his steadfast friend, stood by his side through the sporting seasons and remained a close companion throughout his life.

Following his graduation, Art continued his studies at Corning Community College to study Criminal Justice. A self-employed craftsman, he possessed the unique ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, whether that meant turning a simple fork into a practical cup holder or solving complex problems with ease. His determination and free-spirited approach to life were evident in everything he did. He cherished his time working alongside his friend of 25 years, Eric Cambra, at various car dealerships where he sold and was in management. Their friendship took them on an adventure when they packed their bags and relocated to Massachusetts, embracing the change and new opportunities.

Art's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An excellent cook, he had the uncanny ability to conjure up gourmet Asian cuisine from the most spartan of refrigerators. His love for the cosmos was equally profound, as he spent countless hours gazing at the stars and clouds, always reminding those around him to "Always Look Up." This phrase was not just a casual comment but a philosophy that Art lived by, embodying the idea that there's always beauty to be found if one simply takes the moment to look for it. Art also captured the galaxy in paintings which he made for special friends and family.

His tastes in life were as refined as his personality—Art had champagne taste on a beer budget and reveled in life's adventures, big and small. He was always willing to give of himself, a testament to his compassionate, loving, and caring nature. His handy skills, adventurous spirit, and loving heart are the hallmarks of his legacy.

Art leaves behind a family that adores him, including his mother and stepfather, his brothers David, Robert and Patrick Bidlack; his aunts and uncles: Kathy & Phil Benson, Harriet Cary, James & Nelly Ellison, Marion & Herb Stafford, Eric Ellison, Gary & Tracy Ellison, Carolyn & Palmer Hall, Dorothy & Lee Stevens. Many cousins among them Adam Murphy, Wayland Alexander, Robin (Bidlack) Baldwin; and many friends who will miss his presence dearly. His loyal pup, A.J., will also feel the absence of his many breakfast treats.

In keeping with the family's wishes, there will be no services. Instead, Art would want each person to remember him as a shining star in the heavens. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The only true gift is a portion of thyself." Art gave generously of himself to everyone he knew, and in doing so, he became an irreplaceable part of many lives.

As we say goodbye to Art, let us honor his memory by looking up at the night sky, finding comfort in the stars he so loved, and remembering the bright light he was in the galaxy of our lives. Art had such a kind heart for all animals and the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Stray Haven, 194 Shepard Rd., Waverly, New York 14892 in loving memory of Arthur George Bidlack II
