Arthur W. Hager, Sr., 81, of Old Barton Road, Waverly, NY passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2008 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. A life long resident of Tioga County, Art was born on December 4, 1926 in Candor a son of the late Leonard and Nellie C. (Van Duser) Hager. Art was a veteran of the US Army and the Merchant Marines where he proudly served his country during World War II. For many years, he was a farmer and served as a school bus driver for Spencer Van Etten. Art was a fifty year member of the Halsey Valley Fire Dept., enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling the country side with his wife Phyllis. Art is survived by his children: Bill and Laura Hager of Middlesex, NC; Pam and Mike Ashley of Laurenburg, NC; Patty and Bill Bennett of Alamogordo, New Mexico; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great grandchildren "in the oven". Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 66 years Phyllis (Coleman) Hager on June 15, 2007. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services for Art today, July 24th at 4 pm at the Halsey Valley United Methodist Church with Pastor Alan Bill and Pastor Ann Canfield, officiating. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held at the church from 3pm until the time of the service at the church.
