Bertha M. Nichols

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared and that will comfort thee…Bertha M. Nichols, 97, of Waverly, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Friday morning, October 23, 2015 at home. Bertha was born on September 16, 1918 in Elmira, NY a daughter of the late George and Mabel (Doty) Stage. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother ~ Bertha treasured her family. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and listening to books on tape. On November 14, 1937, in Canisteo, NY she married Abram L. Nichols and together they shared nearly 77 years of marriage until his passing on September 24, 2014. Bertha was welcomed and greeted into heaven by her husband Abe, her infant daughter Joanne, son Jack Nichols, son-in-law Donald Schopf, grandson Jack Nichols, Jr., her siblings: Peggy Quick, Ella House, Paul Stage, Minzie Groves, Roberta Brown, William Stage, Albert Stage, Jean Ebner, and Donna Hallet. She will be greatly missed by her children: Barbara and John Merrill; George and Virginia Nichols; Gary and Linda Nichols; Lois and Frank Wasielewski; Fred and Joan Nichols; Richard and Cooki Nichols; Dorothy Schopf; daughter-in-law Bonnie Nichols; her sister Beverly Kemp; twenty eight grandchildren, sixty-six great grandchildren, forty-five great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, October 26th from 11 - 1 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of her life will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Frank Wasielewski and Pastor John Merrill, officiating. Interment will follow in the Emory Chapel Cemetery.
