Beverly "Bev" (Culver) Sodon, a cherished matriarch and beacon of kindness, passed away after a courageous and brief battle with cancer on January 14, 2026. Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, on December 2, 1958, Bev's life was a testament to the power of love and the beauty of creativity.
Bev's journey began as the daughter of Hazel (Rice) and James L. Culver, Sr., and she grew up surrounded by the love of her brother, James Jr. and sisters, Tina and Carolyn. Bev's heart found its true companion in William "Bill" Sodon, Jr., with whom she built a life filled with love and shared adventures. Together, they ventured from the rolling hills of New York to the sunny coasts of Georgia, where they enjoyed setting crab traps and fishing, embracing the simplicity and joy of life by the water. Bev's love for nature was evident in her green thumb, as she nurtured plants that thrived under her care, including a "huge" lemon tree that bore fruit as large as watermelons.
Her creativity knew no bounds, as Bev delighted in making crafts, from resin works to wind chimes and necklaces. She found peace in the flutter of butterflies and the delicate dance of hummingbirds, a reflection of the gentle and patient soul she was. Bev's kindness was legendary; she was always the first to lend a helping hand, embodying the saying, "I love you to the moon and back," a phrase she held dear and often shared with her loved ones. As a devoted mom, Bev's evenings were often spent singing "Butterfly Kisses" to her children, a sweet ritual that enveloped them in love and comfort. Her spirit, loving and kind, creative and generous, will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Bev's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Bill; her son, Guy Culver and companion Pamela Strope; her daughter and son-in-law, Desiree and Kenny Clark; her adored grandchildren, Austin Culver, Brianna Culver, William Clark, Saphire Clark, and Delmar Clark; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Noah, Evelyn, and Carter. Her brother and sister-in-law: James and Sophie Culver; Tina Culver-Teeter, Carolyn Brown. Her nieces and nephews, Tony Culver, Michelle Pipher, Christine Saxon, and Kelly Carnrike will remember her fondly as an aunt who loved with her whole heart. Her memory will also be cherished by several other grandchildren and great grandchildren. She joins in peace her parents, Hazel and James L. Culver, Sr., and her niece Amanda Williams, who predeceased her.
