An amazing teacher has been promoted and now sits at the feet of The Great Teacher, her Savior, Jesus Christ. Beverly M. Guenther,77, of Barton, affectionately known as Mrs. G. to many, passed away peacefully surrounded in the love of her family on Saturday, August 6, 2022 following a period of declining health.
Born on April 14, 1945 in Taylorville, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Louise (Honore) Ward. She was awarded her Bachelors Degree in Religious Education from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY and also obtained her Permanent NY Teaching Certification from Cortland College.
Married in 1967 to the love of her life, Stephen Guenther, she became a Pastors wife serving at the Killawog, NY Baptist Church and Brooktondale, NY Baptist Church. She was instrumental is starting the Christian School in Brooktondale as well. Mrs. G devoted her life to teaching, mentoring and being a dear friend to hundreds of lives. For more than 25 years, she has taught at Tioga Central Christian School. During summer vacations she worked at Lamoka Lake Baptist Camp as a cook and manager of the camp stores. Her family enjoyed being there so very much that they can now claim third generation employment there. In her ‘spare' time, she enjoyed traveling and RV camping with her family and various arts and crafts including latchhook.
In addition to her husband, Stephen, she is survived by her four sons and their wives: James and LeAnn Guenther, Stephen Jr. and Michelle Guenther, Philip Guenther, Robert and Hilary Guenther; her sister, Joyce Cughan of Washington Courthouse, Ohio and numerous cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday evening, Aug 11th from 6-8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel. She will be laid to rest in the Smithboro Cemetery.
