Carol Elaine (whitman) Nallon, 78, of Spencer, NY, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Vestal Nursing Center in Vestal, NY. Carol was born November 4, 1932 in Endicott, NY to Duane and Ann Whitman. She grew up with her sister Beverly in Vestal and was a graduate of Vestal High School. She was proud to be a former Golden Bear. Carol enjoyed a 25 year career at IBM in Owego, first in the Keypunch Department and then later working in Purchasing until her retirement in 1987. Carol was a charter member and former president of the Tioga County Lioness Club and later joined the Owego Lions Club. She enjoyed volunteering at the Empire State Speech and Hearing Clinic in Spencer. Carol had a strong faith which she shared with others often. She was a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church in Candor, where she taught Sunday School and most recently was a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church in Litchfield, PA. Carol was proud of her Irish heritage and would never let anyone forget to wear green on St. Patrick's Day. For many years Carol would get together every Saturday night with her friends from church to play cards. She always liked to swim and was an avid reader. In her later years Carol was content just listening to her music or watching a movie. She enjoyed making trips with her sister to Ireland and Hawaii and spending time at the beaches in Florida and Maine while visiting friends and family. For the past thirty five years Carol shared a home with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren in Spencer. She loved being able to see her grandchildren every day and to help raise them from the day they were born. Carol never missed a game, concert, or dance recital. She enjoyed every minute of being a grandma and almost everyone who knew her called her Grandma Carol. When her grandchildren grew up and started families of their own she was thrilled to become a great grandmother and was very pleased to be given enough time to see the births of three new babies in the past several months. Carol was able to live in her own home until recently due to the efforts of her son-in-law with assistance from Phyllis Ludwig and Lourdes Hospice. She spent the last few weeks at Vestal Nursing Center where she was able to remain comfortable until the Lord called her home. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Jodi and Jon Austin; grandchildren Duane and Erica Austin, Shawn and Jessica Austin, Ryan and Jennifer Austin, Kyle Austin and fiance Courtney Forsman, Mallory and Carl Hill ; step-grandchildren Kimberly Countryman and Kieth and Kimberly Austin great-grandchildren Leah, Noah, Lily, Reese, Kate, Seth; step-great-grandchildren Kendra, Trevor, Kagan, Kade, Kinzie; sister Beverly Loller cousins Linda and Ronald Bors, Stephen White, George and Debbie White, Douglas and Maryanne Whitman, Lois and James Shipley, Rosemary and Michael Somich; nephew William Loller; niece Barbara and John Nezelek; great niece and nephews Sarah, John, James Nezelek; special friends Phyllis and Bruce Ludwig, Linda Thomas, Dorie Hyatt , "adopted" granddaughters Stacey and Terri Morris, and the members of the Lounsberry and Litchfield congregations.
