Catherine "Cathy" M. Edsell, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at her home in Windham, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the warmth of her family's love. Born on January 11, 1938, in Binghamton, New York, Cathy's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family, her community, and her faith.
Cathy's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Warren Center, where she completed her eighth grade education. She later graduated from Vestal High School in the class of 1955 and pursued her passion for nurturing young minds by attending E. Stroudsburg University for Early Childhood Education. Cathy's professional path led her to Magnetic Labs for a brief period, before heading to work briefly at IBM. However, her true calling was always at the heart of her home, where she dedicated herself to her family as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she took immense pride in each of their accomplishments. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Larry & Ernistine "Tina" Edsell, Barbara Jayne, Kevin Edsell, Andrew & Teresa Edsell, Theresa & Edward Krymowski, and Joel & Kelly Edsell. Cathy's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, PJ & Kristi Burroughs, Tabby & Josh Decker, Emily Edsell, Brian & Stacy Jayne, Stacie Jayne, Chandra Jayne, Brandon & Kim Edsell, Brittany & Andrew Rought, Kent & Anisa Krymowski, Kyle Krymowski, Morgan & Matthew Lawrence, Drew & Brandon Yocum, and Kamryn Edsell, as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Michael & Ivy Jayne, Cheyanne Jayne, Aubree Bartholomew, Robert & Gage Williams, Alethea Burroughs, Irys Burroughs, Shantilly and Isabel Decker, Nolan and Irisa Edsell, Dason & Aurora Lawrence, Ewan Yochum Edsell, Stella, Charlotte, and soon to be baby brother Krymowski, and Atticus and Kennedy Rought.
Cathy was one of 12 siblings, a testament to the bustling and affectionate household that shaped her into the person she was. Her siblings Jack Riley, Patricia Hutchinson, Dorothy (Barry) Angel, Tom Riley, Barbara (Daniel) Boland, and Jane (Keith) Nichols, along with her brother-in-law Terry Silvernail, hold fond memories of Cathy that will forever be etched in their hearts. Her numerous nieces, nephews, and their families also survive her, each carrying a piece of her loving spirit. Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kent E. Edsell, who passed away on January 26, 2017; her parents, Vincent and Catherine (Maxwell) Riley; her siblings Agnes (James) Neville, Joseph (Betty) Riley, Mary Riley, Michael Riley, Ann Silvernail; sisters-in-law Joan Riley and June Riley; a brother-in-law: Roy Hutchinson; son-in-law Alvin Jayne; and grandson Joey Jayne.
Cathy's faith was as steadfast as her love for her family. A devout Christian, she was a faithful member of St. Brigid Parish in Friendsville and the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre, Pa. Her belief guided her through life's trials and triumphs, always serving as a source of strength and inspiration. Cathy's interests and activities reflected her zest for life and her love of community. She was an avid card player, enjoying the camaraderie of her friends on Monday and Wednesday card nights. Bunco was another favorite pastime, along with her involvement in the Red Hats Club, Warren Center Senior Citizens, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 6824. Cathy's talents extended to the kitchen, where she was a delicious baker known for her homemade bread and butter. Described as loving, friendly, and faith-filled, Cathy's presence was a gift to all who knew her. She lived by the well-known quote, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world," often attributed to Dr. Seuss. Indeed, to her family and friends, Cathy was their world.
