Catherine Hazel White

Catherine Hazel White, 83, of Upper Briggs Hollow Rd., Nichols passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Ashton Nursing Home in Athens following a period of declining health. Hazel, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was born on February 7, 1927 in Chemung, NY a daughter of the late Charles and Jennie (Wilcox) Morris. For many years, Hazel was employed at the EJ Shoe Factory in Owego and Endicott. She loved to complete puzzles, and was a collector of owls and birds. Hazel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Ellen Payne of Calhoun, Ga; Robin and Gordon Burlingame of Nichols; April and Paul Conklin of Catatonk; grandchildren: Christina, Cathy, Leon, Crystal, Debra, Sara, William, Stacy and Dawn. Great grandchildren: Jessica, Charles, Aaron, Johnathon, Desiree, Abigail, Ezekiel, Michael and Michelle; great great grandchildren: Ryllieann and Caden, Cammeron. Her siblings: Viva Smith, Russell Morris, William "Buddy" Barton and Janet VanBurean. A sister-in-law: Jean Morris. Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph White; aunt Lillian Wilcox, brothers Louis Morris, Robert Morris, Joe Barton, and sisters Violet Clark and Esther Cook. Funeral services for Hazel will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Pastor William Kohler, officiating. Spring interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Riverside Cemetery, Lounsberry. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral chapel from 10 am until the time of the service at 11am.
