Clara L. Bensley

of Barton, NY

Clara L. Bensley, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law. Born on May 27, 1950, in Waverly, NY, she was a cherished daughter to her late parents, Paul and Blanche (Briggs) Bensley. Clara's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds, as reflected in the relationships she nurtured throughout her 74 years.

A proud graduate of Tioga Central High School, Class of 1968, Clara carried the spirit of her upbringing into every aspect of her life. Her work ethic was unparalleled, having contributed her talents to IBM in Endicott, SCI, and Endicott Johnson. Clara's dedication to her work was fueled by her unwavering commitment to provide for her family. Her children, Deborah (Tim) Graber, Christine Avery, and Jason (Holly) Bennett, were her world. She often remarked that their births had profoundly changed her life for the better, a sentiment deeply felt through the love and support she showered upon them.

Clara's legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, JJ, Austin, Alicia, Aubrey, and Amber Bennett, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life. She also leaves behind her sisters Jane Sacket, Mary Hatch, Ruth (Bill) Coil, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Bensley. Clara was predeceased by her son Jeffery Bennett; a brother, John Bensley, and brothers-in-law, Mel Sacket and Al Hatch and son-in-law Rusty Avery. Her memory will also be cherished by several nieces, nephews, and their families, who survive her.

Her interests were simple yet profound, as she found pleasure in playing cards, delving into the pages of a good book, and cheering on the NY Giants, despite their ups and downs. Clara's presence was a source of warmth and friendship, and she was known for her loving, kind, and friendly nature.

We will gather to celebrate Clara’s life when the flowers have bloomed and the warm weather is upon us—June 23rd at 2:30pm at Barton Riverside Church. Clara's journey through life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the importance of family, values she held dear until her final moments. We take comfort in knowing that her story does not end with her passing, but continues through the love she instilled in us all.
