Softly in the day, you heard a gentle call, you took the hand God offered you, and quietly left us all. Our loving husband, father and grandfather Clarence E. Moore, 81 of North Orwell, (RR 1, Rome, PA) passed away on Friday, January 16, 2009 at his home. Clarence was born on April 14, 1927 at home on Lovett Hill in Orwell Township, Pa a son of the late Charles and Fern (Gorton) Moore. He attended school in North Orwell, Orwell and Rome until the 11th grade when he left to proudly serve his country with the US Navy. On September 14, 1951 he married Norma Gore and together they have shared a life time of memories with their family. Clarence was a member of the North Orwell Union Church, the Towanda American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6824 and the Quarter Century Club of GTE. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He greatly treasured the time spent with his family at "Moore's Acres" In addition he also enjoyed gardening, tending to his yard, was an Yankee, Dallas Cowboy and Chicago Cubs enthusiast. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his community. Clarence is survived by his wife of 57 years Norma Moore; his sons and daughters-in-law: Doug and Susan Moore of Rome, David and Linda Moore of Napervillville, Pa; Brad and Kathy Moore of Athens, Pa; his grandchildren: Dustin Moore and Jan of Richmond, Va; Brian and Brett Moore of Naperville, Ill; Curt, Craig and Carly Moore of Athens, Pa; a brother and sister-in-law: Archie and Anita Moore of Rome; sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Charles Powers of Manassas, VA; sisters-in-law: Gladys Foster of Towanda, Pa; Franc Gore of Luthers Mills, Pa; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, a grandson Aaron Douglas Moore, brothers-in-law: Carl Gore and Ray Foster. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of his life on Tuesday, January 20th at 11 am at the North Orwell Union Church with his pastor Rev. K. Ben Robinson, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Post 6824. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Monday, January 19th from 3 to 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
