Softly in the morning, you heard a gentle call, you took the hand God offered you and quietly left us all ~ our loving husband, dad, grandpa and brother Claude E. Coon, 59, of Ulster, Pa (Rome Township) passed away on Friday morning, November 8, 2013 at his home. Claude was born on January 10, 1954, one of ten children of Arthur Datus and Margaret (VanWinkle) Coon. He was a graduate of Northeast Bradford High School Class of 1972. On July 28, 1973, he married Patricia Ayers and together they shared forty years of happiness. Claude was a member of the Rome Presbyterian Church where he served as a former trustee. A devoted husband, father and grandfather ~ his greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by his family. Claude was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and being amongst mother nature's greatest surroundings. He had a special talent for woodworking and loved to travel. Claude retired from E.I. Dupont in November of 2012 after 39 years of employment there. Claude will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Patricia Coon; his son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Bobbie Coon of Sidney, Nebraska; his daughter and son-in-law: Meranda and Kevin Abma of Burlington; his special grandchildren: Haley, Landon, Kevin "Dutch" and Mason. His siblings: Lloyd (Linda) Coon of Rochester, NY; Larry (Nancy) Coon of Endicott; Donald Coon of Towanda; Alan (Sue) Coon of Milan; Arthur William Coon of Towanda; Robert (Kathy) Coon of Rome; Kevin Coon of Wyalsuing; Denise (Jerry) Patterson of Waverly; Pam (Tim) Lovitt of TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Margaret Coon. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Sunday, November 10th from 5 to 7 pm at the Rome Presbyterian Church. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 11th at 11 am at the church.
