Dan was a proud patriot who served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. After his honorable discharge, he returned to his roots and channeled his hardworking ethos into a successful career. Dan spent many years as a skilled craftsman, working for various Tool and Die companies in the area, but his true passion lay in farming. His love for the land was evident to all who knew him.
Beyond his professional life, Dan was a man of many talents and interests. As a gifted carpenter, he built numerous homes, infusing each with the warmth of his personality. His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, and enjoying the winter months in Florida with Dorla, his beloved wife of over six decades. Together, they forged a life filled with laughter, adventure, and mutual respect.
Dan was a man of faith, he and Dorla regularly attending the West Warren Congregational Church, where he found solace and fellowship. His friendly demeanor and faith-filled life left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Dan will be remembered for his loving nature, which was the cornerstone of his existence and the legacy he leaves behind.
Known for his unique flair, Dan could often be seen wearing one of his many Fedora hats, a collection he proudly amassed and coordinated with every outfit. This sartorial signature became synonymous with his friendly visits and the engaging conversations he so enjoyed.
Dan's life was a testament to the power of love and family. He is survived by his wife, Dorla (Rogers) Race, whom he married on September 16, 1961. His legacy continues through his sons and daughters-in-law: Douglas (Diane) Race, Alan Race, Daniel (Crystal) Race, and Aaron (Amy) Race. His joy was multiplied through his grandchildren: Justin, Tyler, Adrian, Lewis, Ethan, and Angelina, and he was blessed to know his great-grandson, Waylen. Dan also leaves behind his brothers, Walter and Jacob, several nieces, nephews, and their families, who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his brothers: Sam, Melvin, Elmer, Dana, Olyn, George.
