David H. Seelman, 78, of Nichols, NY, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014, following a long battle against cancer. Dave was born on November 20, 1936 in Dorothy, NJ, the son of the late Herman and Marie (Josephsen) Seelman. He was a graduate of Vineland High School and later graduated from the DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, IL. Dave made a career at IBM, and retired as a Senior Engineer. On December 18, 1964, he married June McCabe and together they made Nichols their home. Great believers in volunteerism, Dave and June dedicated many hours to their community, serving with the Nichols Ro-ki Club, the Cady Library, Friends of the Cady Library and the Waterman Conservation Education Center. In addition, Dave also served on the Nichols Town Board. Dave was passionate about gardening, hunting, conservation, reading and listening to an eclectic assortment of music. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, June (McCabe) Seelman, his daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Scott MacDonald of Owego; his sister Helen Freney of Mays Landing, NJ; grandsons Alex MacDonald and Ian MacDonald both of Owego; nieces: Debbie Sacco; Dawn Freney and Denise (John) Appleget. Dave was predeceased by his parents and his son Errik David Seelman. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 12-2 pm at the Nichols Presbyterian Church, 140 Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of Dave's life will follow at 2 pm with his longtime friend, Rev. Ervin Graves, officiating.
