Dennis R. Merrill

November 3, 1962 — September 12, 2024

Dennis R. "Denny" Merrill, a cherished husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away suddenly due to a heart attack on September 12, 2024, at his home. Born on November 3, 1962, in Waverly, NY, Denny's 61 years were marked by an unwavering spirit of love, generosity, and adventure.

Denny's life was a testament to the strength of family bonds and the joy of everyday moments. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Brenda (Brink) Merrill, who was his partner in all of life's endeavors. Together, they raised two wonderful children, son Eric Merrill and daughter Kristy Merrill, who, alongside her fiancé Matt Crews, brought immeasurable happiness to Denny's life. His father, Ray Merrill, and special friend, Dawn Garrapy, will fondly remember Denny's visits and calls every night after work. His sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Randy Bennett, shared many cherished memories with Denny that will be held close to their hearts forever. The family circle that mourns Denny's passing also includes his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Ron Bennett, who embraced him as their own. The light of his life extended to his nephew, Todd, his niece, Toni, and his great-niece, Audrey, all of whom he adored. His loyal dog, Charley, will miss his gentle master. Denny was predeceased by his mother, Lillian Merrill, and his father-in-law, Fred Brink. His extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and the multitude of friends he made along the way will also feel the absence of his kind and generous spirit.

A proud graduate of Northeast Bradford High School's class of 1980, Denny's career was as varied as his interests. He worked at Magnetic Laboratory, Samina, and CAF USA, but he found his true calling as a driver for Best Transit. It was a role that suited his sociable nature perfectly, allowing him to share smiles and stories with all he met.

Denny's life was rich with hobbies and passions. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, embracing the serenity of nature. Denny's adventurous soul loved to seek treasures with his family, yard sailing and thrifting, always looking for the next great find. A lifelong fan of WWE and WWF, he never missed a match and often shared his enthusiasm with his family. His character was one of reliability and a readiness to aid those in need, carrying not just a smile in his pocket but also one that radiated from his heart.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday, September 16th from 4 – 6pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
