Dolores R. Vasilow

Dolores R. Vasilow, 85, of Owego, NY, W2EWO, passed away, September 19th 2015 following a period of declining health. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob (W2VDX) on December 1, 2013. An avid ham radio operator for 64 years, she was the former Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Tioga County, organizing communications for many local events. In the 1970's, she ran telephone patches for overseas servicemen and their families. Dolores and Bob met through Amateur Radio, and were very proud that all five of their children were licensed, they are: Roberta (WB2JLM) Vasilow, Flint, MI; Elaine (WA2JFP) Buckthal and Seth Bruce, Barton, NY; Theodore (now W2VDX, was WN3F) and Pamela Vasilow, New Freedom, PA; Alicia (KB2VPV) Vasilow, Owego, NY; Christopher (ex-N8RHA) and Michele Vasilow, Norwich, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren Emma Buckthal, Stephen, Aaron, Demetrius and Colin Vasilow, a brother Stanley Ricketson and nieces Beth Ann and Debbie. Dolores learned to use a computer and helped many people with genealogy, she painstakingly documented the graves at Evergreen Cemetery, and was a volunteer at the Tioga County Historical Society for many years. Dolores was an active member of St. Patrick's Church serving as a homeroom mother, lunchroom mother, religious education teacher, and choir member. Mom's lilting singing voice would reach the rafters of the church, without benefit of amplification. The family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview Manor in Owego for their loving care of Dolores. The family will receive friends this evening, Tuesday, September 22nd from 6 - 8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 23rd at 10 am at St. Patrick Church, 300 Main St., Owego.
