On Saturday, October 13, 2007 and with the dawning of a new day, Donald E. Boardman, 77, of N. Orwell (RR1, Rome, PA) went to his heavenly home and was reunited with his loving wife Nelsie. Don was born on October 30, 1929 at the family homestead in Windham a son of Erwin and Mildred (Haight) Boardman. He was a graduate of Rome High and following graduation joined his father in the daily operations of the family farm. On August 4, 1951 in Potterville, he married the love of his life and best friend Nelsie Manchester. She predeceased him on January 13, 2003 following 51 years of marriage. Don was an active member of the North Orwell Union Church where he sang with the church choir and held various positions. He was a former member of the Northeast Bradford School Board and formerly served as Windham Township Auditor. An avid singer, he enjoyed music and singing with "The Messengers". When not assisting his son and grandson in the operation of the family farm, Don enjoyed writing poetry and would often recite his poems to those who he greeted. His greatest joy and pleasure was being surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his children: Nancy and her husband Dale Holden of Earlville, NY; Deville and his wife Susan Boardman of Rome, Pa; Linda Gibney of Statesville, NC; Andy and his wife Missy Boardman of Rome, Pa; Avery and his wife Erica Boardman of Towanda, Pa; Amy and her husband Mark Rejmer of Bogart, Ga; a friend who was like a son to Don and Nelsie, Keith and his wife Joan Chilson of Rome, Pa; a special friend and companion Lora Antisdel of West Warren, Pa; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Beryl and Jim Cleary of Sayre, Pa; Lois and Bruce Yeagle; a sister-in-law Mabel Manchester all of Rome, Pa; twenty-nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many dear friends also survive. Funeral services and a celebration of Don's life will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 South Main St., Nichols. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the North Orwell Cemetery. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Monday, October 15th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 South Main St., Nichols.
