When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee….Donald H. Rogers, 86, of Litchfield (Palmer Road, Athens, Pa) passed away at his home on Saturday, April 9, 2011. Don was born on April 11, 1924 in Johnson City, NY a son of the late Hugh Taylor and Myrtle Inez (Gillette) Rogers. He was a veteran of the US Army where he was a P51 Fighter Pilot. On April 2, 1949 he married Ethel Schreck and together they have celebrated 62 years of marriage. Don was a long time employee of Ingersoll Rand and for many years was an insurance and real estate agent for Bird Sumner Agency. He was a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church where he actively participated with the church choir and taught Sunday School. In addition, Don was a member of the Rural Amity #70 Masonic Lodge~served as Past Master and Secretary; member of the Penn York Habitat for Humanity and was a board member of the Bradford County Library. Dedicated to his community, Don also served as president on the Litchfield and Sayre School Boards. He enjoyed singing, bowling, spending time outdoors and being with his family. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years Ethel Schreck Rogers; his sons and daughters-in-law: Scott and Pat Rogers of Troy, Pa; Brett and Alice Rogers of Sayre, Pa; Seth and Bonnie Rogers of Wellsboro, Pa; daughter Sandra Kay Call of Sayre, Pa; his grandchildren: Gretchen (Matthew) Geer, Zachary Rogers, Peggy Settel (Missy Simpson) Barbara Settel; Monica (Ben) Swoyer; Jessica Call, Nathan Call, Raquel Rogers, Renee Rogers, Regan Rogers, Raina Rogers, Raisa Rogers; great grandchildren: Elizabeth Geer, Evan Geer and Juan Barbosa. A sister Doris Dolinich; sisters-in-law: Martha Schreck and Beatrice Lawler. Several nieces, nephews, cousins~among them a special cousin, who was like a brother to Don, Roger and Jan Park. Don was predeceased by his parents and a sister Joyce Hanna. Funeral services and a celebration of a life well lived for Don will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, with Pastor Jon L. Austin, of the Litchfield United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Friday, April 15th from 6 to 8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel. Masonic services will be conducted at 6 pm by the Rural Amity Lodge No. 70 F. & A.M. A period of visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11.
