Donald P. Shaff

A heart of gold stopped beating, two willing hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best... Our hearts were broken on Friday, July 30th, 2021 when Donald P. Shaff, 65 of Nichols the loving husband of 36 years to Wendy R. (Marlin) Shaff, devoted father of Nicole (Jason) Hooper and Ashley Shaff (Jason Smith), beloved papa of three grandchildren, dedicated brother-in-law of Harry Babcock, James Marlin, Cheryl Irons, Amy Mathey, Evelyn Rangel, Gloria Shaff, and Sheila Shaff, caring uncle of many, and the youngest brother of Mary Etta Deretz passed away. Don was born on March 20th, 1956 in Endicott, NY the youngest child of the late Hiram F. and Ivah L. (Sherwood) Shaff. He was a graduate of Owego Free Academy class of 1975. For over twenty five years Don was employed at BorgWarner in Ithaca, mostly as a Maintenance Master Mechanic where he took great pride in his work. Don was a hardworking man with a heart of gold and his family was at the center of everything he did. Don was predeceased by his parents, brothers Fred and Brandon Shaff, a sister Patricia Babcock and a brother-in-law Dwight Deretz. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Friday, August 6th from 4 to 6pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of his life will follow at 6pm.
