Donald S. Root

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee….Our loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother and friend, Donald S. Root, 79, of Smithboro passed away with his family at his side on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at home. "Rabbit", as he was affectionately known and remembered by his family and friends was born on August 4, 1930 in Endicott, a son of the late Donald L. and Anna (Buchi) Root. He enjoyed spending time on his farm, tinkering, in his woodshop and was proud to call Smithboro his home. Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Gloria A. (Ketron) Root; his children G. Ann (Wayne) Benscoter of Berkshire; Donald L. (Shari) Root of Sharon, SC; Bonita (Bob) Dombroski of Concord, NC; Kerry (Kim) Root; Chris W. Root all of Smithboro; his sisters Annie Root of Smithboro and Englewood, Fla; Beverly (Douglas) Graham of Englewood, Fla; 22 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents, and his daughter Dorothea C. Root. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at 3 pm Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the North Waverly Chapel. A luncheon and gathering will follow the service.
