Donald W. Rice

Donald W. Rice, 89, of Moore Street, Waverly passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA following a period of declining health. Don was born on October 23, 1921 in Scott Center, Pa a son of the late Ward and Margarette (Pettit) Rice. He was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served his country during WWII. Don was a retired employee of the Eclipse Corp in Elmira. On March 27, 1965 he married Marianna Milano. Don enjoyed camping, fishing, tinkering, and completing cross word puzzles. He was a life member of the Owego VFW Post 1371. Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marianna "Anna" Rice; his sons and daughters-in-law: Kenneth W. and Charyle Rice; Thomas E. (Patricia) Rice; a daughter Barbara J. Rice; step daughter Cheryl Gallagher; a brother George Rice; sister Hazel Culver; sister-in-law Melvina Rice; grandchildren: Virginia, Charles, Betty, Donnie, Maggie, Francis, Louis, Angie and David; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Don was predeceased by his first wife Betty; sister Doris and brothers Dick, Bill and Bob. Funeral services for Don will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Pastor Dan Martin, of the Nichols United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Friday from 10 am until the time of the service.
