Dr. George Ledyard Conrad, VMD 90 Dr. George Ledyard Conrad, VMD, 90, formerly of Rome, Pa passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. George was born on September 22, 1917 in South Gibson, PA a son of the late Edmund Frank Conrad and Mary Isabel Ledyard Conrad. He attended local schools in South Gibson and in 1936 graduated from Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pa. Following graduation he attended Penn State for one year where he obtained his Pre-Veterinary requirements. George continued his education at the Unversity of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1942 with a Veterinary Medical Doctor degree. During his years at Penn he was introduced to Rome and vet medicine first hand when he spent summers assisting Dr. Isaac Stoll in his practice. His career began when he worked full-time for Dr. Stoll, and continued when he opened his own practice in 1946. In 1945 George married local Rome native, Ida May Parks. She proved a willing and very able assistant and continued working side-by-side with him until 1999 when he retired. Ida May predeceased him on October 25, 2003. George is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mary Louise and Richard Tuhro as well as his grandsons Matthew Conrad Tuhro, his wife Kimberly Tuhro, all of Sault Sainte Marie; Douglas Richard Tuhro of Webster, New York and his great grandson Tyler Bellinger Tuhro also of Sault Sainte Marie. Predeceased by a brother, Warren Spafford Conrad, December 3, 1990. Funeral services and celebration of George's life will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 12 noon at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 South Main St., Nichols with Pastor K. Ben Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at the Rome Cemetery. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral chapel.
