As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God…Our loving husband, father, brother, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend Dwight Deretz, 72, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Dwight was born on April 3, 1943 in Twin Rocks, Pa a son of the late Ernest and Agnes (Donaldson) Deretz. He was a graduate of the Tioga Central High School class of 1963. On June 18, 1966 he married Mary Etta Shaff and together they made Nichols their home. Dwight was a retired night clerk for P & C in Owego. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family at Greenwood Park. Dwight could be found early morning, walking his dog Cubby, many days were spent in the woods where he would reflect and go hunting. He was a member of the Owego Nazarene Church and the National Rifle Association. Until we meet again, may you find comfort in the arms of an angel. Dwight will be greatly missed by is wife of 49 years, Mary Etta; his children: Renee' Deretz and companion Tina Ketcham of Nichols; Daniel Deretz of Nichols; Teresa and her husband Matt Hudson of Endicott; his twin brother Dwayne and his wife Carol Deretz of Constancia, NY; a sister Vicky French of Windham, Pa; lovingly called "Papa" by special grandchildren: Justin (Patty) Harding, Lance Harding (Raeann Mattice), Luke (Justine) Harding, Erica Deretz, Erik Deretz, Rebecka Deretz (Jalon Bogart), Christa Hudson and Carter Hudson; three great grandchildren: Luke Harding, Jr., Mason Harding, and Aubrey Bogart. A uncle Tom Donaldson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Dwight was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Agnes Deretz; his daughter-in-law Katherine Deretz and a brother-in-law Norman French. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Thursday, July 23rd from 12 -2 and 4 -6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday at 6pm at the funeral chapel with Pastor David Parker, officiating.
