Edith Harriet (Hohorst) Koehn of Barton, age 74, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010 following a period of declining health. Edith was born on May 11, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of the late George and Helen (Hashagen) Hohorst. She graduated from BayRidge High School and earned her histological technologist degree from Eastern School for Physicians Aides, New York, New York. On October 6, 1957 she married John F. Koehn, they owned and operated a Carvel store on Long Island, and eventually owned J.F.K. Distribution Company in Barton, NY. They raised four children while residing in Freeport, LI, NY. In 1972, the family moved to Barton, NY. Edith went back to work as a histo tech initially at Wilson Memorial Hospital for almost a decade before retiring from Cornell University Vet School. Edith was predeceased by her husband, John F. Koehn in 1998 and by her parents George and Helen Hohorst. Surviving are her children and their respective spouses; Brenda (Koehn) and Terry Hill of Corning, NY; John and Barbara (Palmer) Koehn of Nichols, NY; Karla Koehn of Waverly, NY; and Heather (Koehn) and Steven Kotula of Richford, NY. Edith also has three grandchildren; Christina Piechowski of Brooklyn, NY; John Piechowski of Green Bay, WI and Brittany Hill of Corning, NY along with one great grandchild, Chase Piechowski of Milwaukee, WI. Edith was very involved in Girl Scouts and was a Girl Scout Leader for over 20 years. She was active in the Tioga Central School PTA and was a volunteer with the Halsey Valley Fire Department. In her spare time she enjoyed family, sewing, canning, gardening and living in on a small farm in Barton. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 4 to 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services will follow at 6 pm at the funeral chapel. Koehn.
