When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee….Edward B. Engelbert, of Sunnyside Rd., Nichols passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 12, 2012 at his home. Ed is survived by his wife Norma (Soule) Engelbert, step-children: Wendy (Andy) Kurtz; Donald (Nadine) Hunt; Shannon Hunt Huxtable; daughter-in-law: Vicki Hunt; brothers Arthur R. Engelbert and Albert Engelbert; sister-in-law: Ina Mae Engelbert; grandchildren: Ashley, Adam, Aaron, Tristan, Josh, Ryan and Abby; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Ed was predeceased by his parents, step son Scott Hunt; brother K. Kay Engelbert; sister-in-law Dorothy Engelbert. A life long resident of Nichols, Ed was born on June 5, 1934 a son of Richard L. and Bernice (Cortright) Engelbert. Ed was a graduate of Nichols High School class of 1952 where he participated in baseball and in 1954 had the opportunity to sign up for Major League Baseball. Ed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nichols, enjoyed golfing, hunting and being with his family. An active member of the community, Ed served as Nichols Justice, Town Supervisor, Town Assessor. He will be greatly missed by his family and his community. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Friday, March 16th from 6 to 8pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Ed's life will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the funeral chapel with a period of visitation from 10 am until 11 am. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Nichols Cemetery.
