Listen to Obituary

Elaine L. Lanciki, 73, a woman known for her quick wit and ability to find humor in even the most ordinary moments, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. She was born on June 12, 1952, in Hackensack, New Jersey — a place she often joked about with her trademark charm.

Elaine was a master storyteller, a playful prankster, and a source of laughter wherever she went. Her sense of humor was legendary, her laughter was contagious, and time spent with her was always filled with joy and amusement. She had a remarkable ability to turn everyday moments into cherished memories, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. She could make friends in any situation — chumming was her specialty, and language barriers were never an issue.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her children, son Michael P. Lanciki, and daughter Alyson Lanciki and her husband John Rateb. Elaine’s beloved feline companion Leo was never far from her side and added to the warmth and liveliness of her home.
Elaine is survived by her siblings Paul (Norma) Strickland and Donna Sandler, and by her nieces and nephews Daren Sandler, James Strickland, Heidi Last, and Paul Strickland. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael W. Lanciki, her parents Harry and Betty Strickland, her sister and lifelong partner-in-mischief Janine Strickland, and her brothers Mark and Peter Strickland.

Though Elaine did not want an obituary, sharing a bit of her story feels like an appropriate final affectionate tribute. Beyond her humor, Elaine was deeply kind and generous, with a curiosity for life reflected in her love of travel, history (especially of Long Island, where she grew up and always shared fond memories of), photography, music, rock collecting, and gardening. Her interests were as varied as her stories, and her presence made life brighter for so many.

In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared by visiting her guestbook at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com.

Elaine leaves behind a world that is a little quieter without her laughter, but surely Heaven has gained a spark of mischief. Those who loved Elaine will carry her humor, warmth, and joyful spirit forward — exactly as she would have wanted.
