Elizabeth "Liz" Norton

A mother holds her children's hand for a little while and their hearts forever…. Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend Elizabeth "Liz" Norton, 80, of Waverly passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Elderwood Nursing Facility in Waverly. A lifelong resident of Waverly, Liz was born on January 28, 1939 a daughter of the late Kenneth and Lena (Wilson) McEwen. She was a graduate of Waverly High School class of 1957. On August 26, 1961 she married Richard C. Norton and together they shared forty-two years of marriage until his passing on February 26, 2003. Liz was a devoted and lifelong member of the Waverly United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in the choir. For over eighteen years, Liz shared her love as a Teacher's Aid with the Waverly School District. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, bowling and treasured the time spent with her family. Liz will be greatly missed by her children: Teri (Steve) Toth of Lowell, MA; Nancy Belles of Syracuse, NY; Richard (Alicia) Norton of Dayton, OH; Ronald (Lori) Norton of Navarre, Fla; her grandchildren: Kristopher, Katie, Ashley, David, Malerie, and Sarah. Her siblings: Art McEwen; Dan (Kathy) McEwen; Ted (Joan) McEwen, Ed McEwen; David (Terry) McEwen, Ken McEwen and Jeff (Candy) McEwen. Her brother-in-law: Jim Norton; sisters-in-law: Erma Norton and Debbie Norton. Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of sharing the special gift Liz was to all of us on Saturday, May 25th from 12 - 2 pm at the Waverly United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Liz will be reunited and laid to rest at the Glenwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
