Elwyn "Butch" E. Brainard

A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place… Elwyn "Butch" Brainard, 95, of Windham, Pa passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Sayre Personal Care Home. Butch as he was loving known by his family and many friends was born on May 24, 1923 in Nichols, NY a son of the late Floyd and Lillian "Lilly" (Kuykendall) Brainard. As a child, he spent his youth living in Windham and enjoyed swimming and fishing in the nearby creek. One of Butch's neighbors was a young girl named Mildred "Millie" she was the apple of his eye and following his graduation from the LeRaysville High School, Butch and Millie married in 1941. Butch continued to assist his family in the operation of the family farm following High School. For many years, Butch was employed at the Ingersoll-Rand and retired following over thirty years of dedicated service. Butch enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors in his vegetable garden. An avid history buff, Butch enjoyed reading and expanding his knowledge on the history of the Civil War. His family was his greatest enjoyment. Butch will be greatly missed by his children: Earlene and Chester Merrill of Windham, Pa; Suzy and Donald Brown of Rome, Pa; Cindy and Frank Robbins of Waverly, NY; Sam and Darcy Brainard of Windham. A daughter-in-law: Karen Brainard of Williamsport; son-in-law: Brian Beckwith of Rome, Pa; Twenty grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his extended family at the Sayre Personal Care Home ~ the love and care they had given to Dad will always be remembered. Butch was predeceased by his wife Millie; a son Gary; daughter Patricia Beckwith and a baby granddaughter Colleen Brainard . Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11 am at the Valley Home Cemetery, Windham, Pa. Pastor David Pitcher of the West Warren Congregational Church will officiate.
