When someone you love becomes a memory....the memory becomes a treasure. Emerson W. Abell, 84, well respected and much loved resident of Warren Center passed away at his home on Saturday, February 13, 2010. A life long resident of Warren Center, Emerson was born on February 3, 1926 a son of the late DeLeon and Bernice (Pendleton) Abell. He attended school in Warren Center until the 11th grade and was a graduate of Vestal High School. On October 8, 1949, he married Alice Allyn and together they shared many happy memories building Abell Farms. A hardworking entrepreneur Emerson was the owner of Emerson Abell Construction which continues to be operated by his son Daniel. Devoted to his community, Emerson was a long time member of the Warren Township Fire Department where he served as Fire Warden for over fifty years. In addition, Emerson served on the Northeast Bradford School Board, was a member of the Warren Center United Methodist Church, shared fellowship with his friends at the Warren Center Independent Bible Church and the Warren Center Senior Center. Always willing to assist others in need, Emerson was a founding member of HIP a mission group who assisted Midwest Indian Missions. He also was a committee member for the Bradford County Republican Committee, a member of the Gideons, and the Union of Operating Engineers. Emerson was an avid reader of Louis L'Amour books and enjoyed spending time out doors. His greatest pleasure was found being surrounded by his loving family. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke out hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Emerson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice (Allyn) Abell; his six children: Tom (Mary Kay) Abell; Jerry (Bonnie) Abell; Robert D. (Mary) Abell; Dennis (Shirley) Abell; Daniel (Sharon) Abell; Mary (Glenn) Wolfe; a brother Dee (Anna) Abell; sisters: Martha (Bob) Dewing and Grace Dewing; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Ashley and Cora Allyn. His special grandchildren: Tommy (Megan), Tyson, Matthew (Missy), Justin (Anna), Jessica, Corey, Todd, Khristina (Micah), Rindy, Joe, Robert (Christian), Roxanna (Maurice), Pamela, Clyde, Angela, Nicholas, Jonathan (Becky) Heidi (Nathan), Robin (Austin), Bryan (Natalie), Anne-Shirley, Denise, Jared, Raeanna (Chris), Daniel, Jacqueline, Benjamin, Samuel, Stacy and Craig; great grandchildren: Noah, Ayla, Sylas, Finnegan, Lochlann, Isabella, Joe, Evelyn, Janna, Paul, Matthew, Malachi, Elise, Lanna, Sara, Ryan, Luke, Hannah, Noah and Addison. Several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Emerson was predeceased by his parents DeLeon and Bernice (Pendleton) Abell; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Merle and Mary Allyn; brother-in-law Max Dewing, sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Beva and Milo Wilson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Audra and Ellen Allyn. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Wednesday, February 17th from 3 to 7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of a life well lived will be held on Thursday, February 18th at 11 am with Pastor Dale Anschuetz of the Warren Center Independent Bible Church and Emerson's grandson Pastor Rob Abell, officiating.
