Frederick James Cornell

Frederick James Cornell, 85, of Stanton Hill Rd., Nichols passed away on Thursday evening, October 23, 2014 at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Owego. Fred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Russell J. and Kimberly Cornell of Nichols; a special grandson Russell Cornell, Jr. of Athens, Pa; a step granddaughter Jacklyn Fulmer of Owego; a brother-in-law: Nathan Donnelly of Nichols; sisters-in-law: Mabel Manchester of Rome, Pa; Helen Cornell of Nichols; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Fred was predeceased by a sister Carla Prince and a brother Bud Cornell. Fred was born on May 30, 1929 in Nichols a son of the late Charles and Ida (Harwood) Cornell. He attended school on Stanton Hill and later graduated from Owego High School. On October 11, 1962 in Owego, he married Margery L. Bean, they celebrated 33 years of marriage until her passing on September 16, 1995. A true "jack of all trades" Fred will be remembered by his friends on Stanton Hill as the repair man. He enjoyed assisting his neighbors at their farms, mowing yard and for many years mowed the Riverside Cemetery in Lounsberry. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday evening, October 27, 2014 from 6 - 8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of Fred's life will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at 10 am at the funeral chapel. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Nichols Cemetery.
