When someone you love becomes a memory….the memory becomes a treasure. Our loving dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend Frederick P. Miller, 71, of Truxton, NY passed away with his family at his side on Monday evening, July 18, 2011. Affectionately known by his family and friends as "Jim" he was born on May 16, 1940 in Cuyler, NY a son of Frederick and Blanche (Shaw) Miller. Jim attended school in Marathon and proudly served his country with the US Marines for twenty-one years. While in the service, he received numerous medals to include: the Presidential Unit Citation; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Viet-Nam Service Medal and the RVN MUC Cross of Gallantry. A dedicated farmer, Jim enjoyed farm life and had worked on a farm in Fabius. An avid golfer, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his golfing buddies, among them George, Bruce and Sam. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A special thank you for the love and care Jim received from all those at Lourdes Hospice as well as his neighbors. Jim is survived by his daughter and caregivers Mistie Long (Greg Rogers); sons: Scott (Debbie) Miller; Bruce (Sue) Parshall; Brian Parshall. His twin brother Floyd "John" Miller; sisters: Shirley Dixon, Freida Bleck, Violet Pigg; Sharon Parkhurst and Brenda Torrey; his grandchildren: Kandace, Kiara, Skily, Jessica, David, Katlyn, Masie, Brianna, Kristian; great grandchildren: Adam and a soon to be great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Jim was predeceased by his wife Wanda (Lewis) Miller; a son James Miller; brother Jack Miller. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 1 to 5 pm at the DeRuyter American Legion. Military services will be conducted at 1 pm.
