Frederick L. Tiffany, known affectionately as Fred to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the Sayre Memory Care Center. Born on November 27, 1928, in Sayre to Walter R. and Lucy (Lowe) Tiffany, Fred's life was characterized by his unwavering kindness, friendliness, and generosity. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a respected farmer and member of his community.
Fred was a proud graduate of Athens High School, class of 1945. His heart found its match on April 26, 1957, when he married the love of his life, Jean McCann. Together, they built a beautiful life in Litchfield, Pa, and were blessed with a large and loving family. Fred's legacy lives on through his sons, Walter Tiffany, Scott (Tammie) Tiffany, Russell (Christina) Tiffany, Thomas (Traci) Tiffany, and Daniel (Kattie) Tiffany; his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, Douglas (Linzie), Andrew (Megan), Frederick (Katie), Alexander (Angela), Brittany, Zachary, Nicholas (Cassie), Tyler, Melissa, Ashley, and Emily; and his adored five great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter. His memory will also be cherished by a special friend, Jean Carleton, several nieces, nephews, cousins Gary and Connie Tiffany, and Kenneth and Barbara Tiffany. His life was a testament to the virtues of kindness, friendship, and generosity, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Fred was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Jean, who passed away on July 4, 2014, a infant brother, Walter R. Tiffany, Jr. and his sister Jane (Charles) Fessler.
A man of the earth, Fred and his wife Jean were the proud owners and operators of the Tiffany Sweetfern Dairy Farm. He was an active and dedicated member of the PA Farm Bureau, PA Farmers Association, and the Empire Keystone Milk Co-op, where he served as Treasurer. Fred also contributed his wisdom to the PA Farm Advisory Council. His commitment to agriculture extended beyond his own farm; he and Jean cherished their monthly gatherings with fellow farmers—the Wanzo's, Twiggs, Feusner's, Derstine's, and Merrill's—to discuss farming issues and share in the camaraderie of their shared passion.
Fred's Christian faith was a guiding light in his life, and he was a devoted member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church. He served on the Board, participated in various committees, and lifted his voice in song as a member of the church choir. His faith was not just a belief but a practice of love and service to others.
An avid outdoorsman, Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He treasured the time spent with his fishing buddies, Willis Arnold and Art Miller, and it's a comfort to know he joins them now in heaven's pond. His love for the outdoors was only matched by the joy he found in the company of his friends and family.
As we remember Fred, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded." Fred truly succeeded by this measure, having left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him and the world he so tenderly cultivated.
