Gail Marie (Vrabel) Lutz, affectionately known as "Joyful Pilgrim" for her ever-optimistic outlook on life, and "Grandma Horsey" for her deep-seated love of animals, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Rochester, NY following a long illness. Born on November 19, 1945, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Gail's vivacious spirit and compassionate heart touched the lives of many throughout her 79 years.
Gail married her high school sweetheart, Richard C. Lutz on November 6, 1965. Both were graduates of Woodbridge High School, class of 1963. Gail was a long-time member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Little Meadows, Pa where she taught Religious Education Classes and was a youth group leader for many years.
Gail's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith and the immeasurable love she had for her family. She is survived by her devoted children, Teresa Lutz-Priestner and her partner Brian Jones of Sanford, NC; Michael and Judy Page Lutz of Peckville, PA; and Richard and Amy Hammerly Lutz of Avon, NY. A sister-in-law Florence Vrabel. Her legacy continues through her six beloved grandchildren, Breanne Priestner Reed (Justin), Megan Priestner Hale (Joshua), Dakota Lutz (Justine), Joshua Lutz, Gracie Lutz, and Jacob Lutz. She also leaves behind Levi, who held a place in her heart akin to that of a grandchild. Her memory will also be cherished by many nieces, nephews and their families.
Gail was predeceased by her parents John (1993) and Helen (1994) Vrabel; her husband Richard (2001) and her brother and only sibling William Vrabel who passed away just two weeks prior to Gail’s passing; and her son-in-law John Priestner, who was killed in Iraq on November 6, 2006.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Tuesday, July 29th from 10 -11 am at St. Brigid Parish - St. Francis Xavier Church in Friendsville, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am with Father Thomas Augustine, officiating. Gail will be laid to rest in St. Luke’s Cemetery in Warren Center, Pa.
