Gene A. Miller, Sr., a cherished patriarch and beacon of faith, passed away peacefully at his home in Orwell Township, Rome, Pennsylvania, on December 12, 2023, at the age of 86. Born on October 4, 1937, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Gene's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication to family, and unwavering faith.
Gene was the beloved husband of nearly 67 years to his wife, Eleanor. Their union was a testament to enduring love, having been married on December 24, 1956, in Littlestown, PA. Together, they built a life rich in joy and love. He was a devoted father to Debbie and her husband Don Russell, Karen and her husband Willy Rowe, David and his wife Linette Miller, and Rick Miller. Gene was predeceased by his son, Gene A. Miller, Jr., leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.
A proud patriarch, Gene's life was further enriched by his grandchildren: Adam (Monica) Russell, Micah (Tina) Russell, Brian (Abby) Russell, Paul (Pam) Miller, Benjamin (Hanna) Miller, Crystal (Paul) Roop, Heidi (Joshua) Neufeld, Emily Miller, Carianna (Daniel) Evans, Silas Miller, Kelly (Alex) Sheeley, Starla Miller, and his numerous great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness. Gene's life was a living example of his beliefs—a man who planted seeds not only in the fertile soil of his farm but also in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will continue to grow and thrive in the lives of his family and the many lives he touched.
A lifelong farmer, Gene was also a devoted member of the Bumpville Bible Church and had previously attended the Orwell Bible Church, where he served as a Deacon. His commitment to his faith was evident in his service and the way he lived his life every day. Gene's passion for his work extended to his role as a Seed Way sales representative, where he was known for his generosity and willingness to share his extensive knowledge of farming.
Gene's interests were as rich and varied as the fields he tended. He enjoyed bowling and playing in church softball leagues, where his competitive spirit was always matched by his camaraderie and sportsmanship. He was a fountain of wisdom, eagerly sharing his extensive knowledge of farming with anyone who wished to learn. Mornings were a special time for Gene and Eleanor, as they looked forward to breakfast at Bishop's with their church and bowling friends—sharing stories, laughter, and fellowship.
Gene leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, enduring love, and a life richly lived. His spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of the lives he touched, the land he cherished, and the community he served. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who knew him.
