George E. Rogers

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone…Surrounded by his family our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather George E. Rogers, 89, of N. Main St., LeRaysville, Pa passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 24, 2008. George was born on June 13, 1919 in Midvale, Pennsylvania a son of the late Helen (Moore) and Levi Rogers and his step son of Carrie Rose Rogers. A long time resident of LeRaysville, George graduated from LeRaysville High School class of 1937. In 1942 he enlisted into the US Army and served his country as a medic during World War II. Upon an honorable discharge in 1946 and recipient of a Purple Heart, George returned to LeRaysville to marry Ruth A. Allis on October 5, 1946. He retired from Sylvania in 1984 following 38 years of service. George was a devoted member of the Dille Parish United Church of Christ where he served on numerous church boards. He was a founding member of the VFW Post 6824, enjoyed bowling and always looked forward to attending sporting events at Northeast Bradford or events where his grandchildren would play. George is survived by his wife of 62 years Ruth A. (Allis) Rogers; his daughters and sons-in-law: Jeannine L. and Ronald Woolbert of Sweet Valley, Pa; Sandra and Greg Balchikonis of Neath, Pa; his sons and daughter-in-law: Jerry and Shari Rogers of Harrisburg, Pa; Michael L. Rogers of Rome, Pa; a special nephew: George A. Rogers of LeRaysville, Pa; nine grandchildren: Melanie (Chad) Sparbanie, Kelly Jo Gallagher, Brett (Linsley) Rogers, Brooke (Ivan) Davis, Kristy (Brian) Miller, Chad (Danielle Jones) Woolbert, Jessica (Ryan) Eisenhart, Jeremy Balchikonis, Jacob Balchikonis, a special family friend Tanya Potcova. His great grandchildren: Bradley, Cameron and Olivia Sparbanie, Jordan Eisenhart, Heath Miller and Zaden Levi Rogers. Several nieces, nephews and many friends also survive. George was predeceased by his parents and brothers: Floyd Rogers, Merwin Rogers and Ercil Rogers; sisters Cora Dougal and Merle Kelly. Funeral services and celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, November 29th at 10 am at the Dille Parish United Church of Christ, LeRaysville. Interment will follow in the Stevens Cemetery. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Friday, November 28th from 6 to 8 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 South Main St., Nichols and on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the service at the church. Flower will be provided by the family. George lead a happy and fulfilling life, his only regret was that he did not have the means to attend college. To help a student in need and to further their education, George's request would be for memorial contributions to be directed to the Northeast Bradford Student Loan Fund c/o Bob Moore, PO Box 99, LeRaysville, Pa 18829 in loving memory of George E. Rogers.
