George Elwood Parker, Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Tioga Center, NY on October 13, 2023. Born on November 27, 1945, in Endicott, NY, George was a man who held a deep love for his family, his country, and his community.
George was a dedicated worker, spending many years as an employee of Republic Steel and Sanmina Corp in Owego. He was also a proud veteran of the US Army, a testament to his love for his country. George was a man of many talents, but his handiness and thoughtful nature were characteristics that stood out to those who knew him. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast, relishing the freedom and adventure that came with each ride. George's service extended to his local community, where he was an active member of the Tioga Center Fire Department, serving as a Fire Police. His passion for helping others was a testament to his kind and generous spirit.
In his younger years, George coached baseball, sharing his love for the sport with his sons and their friends. His dedication to his family was a cornerstone of his life, and the bonds he formed with his loved ones were truly special.
George is survived by his loving wife Joan M. (Braunbeck) Parker, his sons Randy (Sandra) Parker, Tim (Blair) Parker, and George Parker III (Tracy). He was a doting grandfather to Meghan Parker, Ethan Parker (Bailey Elston), Sean Prahm, Matthew Parker (Ashlynn Beckwith), Shayne Parker, and Courtney Parker. He also leaves behind a great granddaughter, Lyandra, his brother Bill (Barb) Tuttle, sisters-in-law Annie Moon and Shirley Green, brother-in-law George Braunbeck, and several nieces, nephews, and their families. His faithful canine companion, Lilly, will surely miss him.
George was predeceased by his brother Dickie Burgess, sister Linda, mother-in-law and father-in-law Richard and Geneva "Betty" Braunbeck, brother-in-law Richard Braunbeck, and sisters-in-law Peg Westbrook and Geneva Harris.
George's life was marked by a deep love for his family, a strong work ethic, and a dedication to his community. His loving, handy, and thoughtful nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones and through the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime. George was a man of integrity and kindness, a true pillar of his community, and will be deeply missed.
