Born on August 26, 1929, in the rolling hills of Neath, Pennsylvania, Gert's life was truly a life well lived.
A proud graduate of the LeRaysville High School class of 1949, Gert embarked on a lifelong journey of love and family when she married her husband, Norman Rockefeller, on July 29, 1950. The couple shared life together for 49 years until his passing in 1999. Gert was also blessed with loving siblings, her brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Barbara Williams, her sister Mary Sivers, and her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Williams. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and their families. Her heart and home were always open to her special friends, Richard Young and Jack Hartzel. Gert was predeceased by her parents, Guy and Josephine (Chaffee) Williams, her husband, Norman Rockefeller, special friend Claude “Ed” Shiffert; her daughter-in-law Joyce Rockefeller, and her brothers Erwin, Howard, and Art, as well as her brothers-in-law Dale Rockefeller and Ken Sivers.
Gert's friendships extended beyond her immediate family. She was an active member of the Warren Center and Nichols Senior Citizens communities, where she enjoyed fellowship and the company of her peers. She also was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary was always willing to help a friend in need. Gert's hands were rarely still, as she found joy in crocheting, creating blankets and handcrafted items that she lovingly shared with others. Her love for dance was evident to anyone who saw her glide across the floor to the tunes of Lawrence Welk and Glenn Miller. Known for her radiant smile that could light up any room, Gert was a beloved figure in the Warren Center community.
Gert’s life was a tapestry of family, friendship, and community service, woven with threads of joy, love, and compassion.
