Gertrude Louise Newman

of LeRaysville, Pa

Gertrude Louise Newman, a beacon of kindness and gentleness, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on February 11, 1944, in Pike Township, Pennsylvania, Gertrude's life was a testament to love, family, and caring for others..

A proud graduate of Northeast Bradford High School's class of 1963, Gertrude's early years were spent in the scenic landscapes of Pennsylvania, which she always held dear. Her life's journey was marked by dedication and hard work, as evidenced by her time spent at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory and the Paper Magic Factory. Beyond her professional endeavors, Gertrude opened her heart and her home, caring for the older members of her community with an unmatched compassion.

Gertrude's life was rich with love and laughter, shared with her beloved family. She is survived by her children, Bryan and Nikki Newman; Kathy Newman and her fiancé Duane Berkley; Janet and Bill Lowe; Susan and Russell Peterson; Karen and Glenn Camp. Her grandchildren—Rebekah, Clara, Sonny, Madison, Cody, Michael, and Isaac—will carry forward the light of her love. Gertrude's sister and brother-in-law, Beverly "Judy" Terascavage, and brothers and sister-in-law, Richard and Diane Newman, Carl Newman, will continue to honor her memory, along with her several nieces, nephews, and their families. She was welcomed into heaven by her cherished husband, Robert L. Newman, who passed away on November 11, 2019, an infant son, Robert Newman, Jr., her siblings Frederick Brink, Doris Allen, and her parents Alvin B. and Viola M. (Casselbury) Brink.

Gertrude's interests and passions were a reflection of her loving spirit. She delighted in shopping and thrifting with her girls, and she found joy in the simple pleasures of puzzle books and the occasional visit to Tioga Downs Casino with her sister Judy. A master in the kitchen, Gertrude's homemade Mac and Cheese, donuts, rolls, and banana and zucchini breads were the heart of family gatherings. Her love for cooking and baking was only surpassed by the love she had for her children and grandchildren, and the pleasure she took in watching the animals visit her yard.

It was often said that Gertrude had a heart as big as the outdoors she so loved, a sentiment that echoes the famous words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of Gertrude's life—a series of small, loving acts that together created an extraordinary legacy.

Abiding with her wishes, there will be no services. Gertrude will be laid to rest in the spring next to her husband in the South Warren Cemetery.
