Gilbert A. Martz, 71, of Ro-ki Blvd., Nichols, NY passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. He was born on July 7, 1937 in Sayre, Pa a son of the late Ward and Sarah (Clark) Martz. Gil attended school in Athens and for many years owned and operated a dairy farm in Litchfield. In addition, he was also a meat cutter by trade and owned Martz's Meat Plant in Litchfield. He will be remembered by many as an auctioneer for over thirty years. Gil was an avid John Deere collector, had a great love for antiques and shared his interest as a member of several antique tractor clubs throughout the area. In his earlier years, Gil was a school bus driver for Litchfield, showed horses, hulled can milk and still found time to be a 4-H leader and a Boy Scout Leader. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Gil is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Marilyn (Campbell) Martz; his sons: Gordon Martz and friend Susan Merrin; Thomas and his wife Elisa Martz; a daughter Marlene and her husband Max Godfrey; a brother and sister-in-law: Ray and Donna Martz; sisters: Dorothy Louise Laplant and Shirley Spencer. His special grandchildren: Maureen Martz, Andrea Martz, Andrew Godfrey; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law also survive. Gilbert was predeceased by his parents and a baby sister Patty. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of Gil's life on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 2 pm at the Litchfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Jon Austin, officiating. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held at the church on Saturday from 1 pm until the time of the service.
